Michael Waltrip was leading the Daytona 500 today when, for the second time in the race, it began to rain. Under the rules, since the race had passed the halfway point, if the rain caused the race to be cancelled, Waltrip would be the winner.
While being interviewed during the rain delay, he uttered what has become one of my favorite sports quotes of all time:
“When I pray to God, the first thing I ask him is to forgive me for all my sins. After that, I ask him for what I want. And right now, I really want it to rain.”
Classic.
